Class Alert: Tapestry Weaving with Natalie Miller
If you think that weaving is just a granny’s pastime, you will be mind-blown by our new tapestry weaving class! Natalie Miller is coming all the way from Australia to teach us how to make beautiful woven wall hanging to add some colours to those empty walls in your home. A perfect combination of fashion and ancient craft work, exquisite yarn and natural fibers, and even some colour-blocking to create playful patterns… these beautiful fibrous fixtures have found their way onto the walls of many sleek and stylish homes.
Natalie Miller is a fibre artists, maker and weaver living in the beautiful Southern Highlands an environment of constant inspiration. A registered architect and interior designer for the past 20 years, Natalie finds creating and craft very meditative and loves to explore the different techniques of textiles. She studied tapestry weaving at Sturt Art and Craft Centre, Mittagong in 2013 and ever since have been creating the most beautiful tapestry weavings and macramé pieces in her vibrant and eclectic studio. Natalie is also a mom to two big boys and a little girl and lives with her husband in a beautiful scenic countryside town of Kangaloon.
Learn from Natalie how to warp hand dyed wools, silk, roving and raffia up onto a timber loom as well as different tapestry weaving techniques. You will also explore the essence of colour, form and texture to create your very own woven wall hanging from a range of fibers. This will definitely be a colourful and inspiring class you wont want to miss!
It is going to be 6 fun hours of learning, creating and engaging in the many facets of weaving! The workshop will cover the fundamentals of weaving including preparing a warp, warping a loom and reading a weaving draft. Natalie will guide you through weaving your very own woven wall hanging from design through execution and finishing.
And yes, nothing’s complete without delicious food and drinks! You will also have plenty of time to receive one-on-one help from the teacher as well as mingle with other like-minded creatives like yourself. At the end of the class, you will take home your very own woven tapestries and Ashford timber weaving loom (retail price SDG 59.-) as well as a goodie bag filled with cotton warp and a selection of wool and fibers for you to continue weaving at home! Be prepared to get your hands tangled with yarns and definitely a wooly good time!
